Digital Media Accompanying "BFS: The Book"

This is all hosted within our "FD Academy" and, once you have one single set of log in details the system just keeps track of which Academy "courses" you have available to you. John Pearson's 1hr 12-min film "Bait Finesse Daydream" opens up the bonus media section and this is a fly on the wall, ride-along video record of a great summer day spent on stream together. There's lots of commentary on what we are doing and thinking - as well as some beautiful wild brown trout captures. Because it is an "as it happened" video diary, we also have our share of near-misses and follows/refusals which all add up to a really satisfying and challenging trip. The video can be easily set to "full screen" viewing mode and the video compression gives a much higher quality image than YouTube.

There is also a download link so that you can view the movie offline when you don't have internet connectivity.

Why was this Bait Finesse Book Written?

The popularity of one particular email sent out to the BFS club subscribers was quite astonishing. No other installment has, so far, generated as many spontaneous messages saying how much everyone enjoyed it. It was a simple story of a fishing trip after a bad day - and the escape that BFS provided.Since I only had my (less-than-top-of the range) phone with me, the photography wasn't up to much. 

However, there was something about that shared experience which resonated with fans of Bait Finesse.

In addition, the ultralight baitcasting community had proven to be such a generous source of discussion and encouragement. There was a great opportunity to interview anglers from around the world and share in their wisdom and experience too. Then there was the small fact that, as yet, there hadn't been an English-language book written by - or for - the Bait Finesse community which seemed a shame.

Finally, just as I did with my nymph fishing book, the most important step was when I asked the BFS Club email subscribers whether I should push that project on to completion…and the response was an overwhelming “YES”.

Is the Digital Content Important to the Print Book?

A big idea behind the video and other digital content is it should be worthy of the price-tag on its own – even before you open the first page of the main book. To have an online clubhouse filled with excellent video, detailed articles, photo galleries and insights from around the globe plus folks in the industry - as well as like-minded people to interact with and drive the direction of future content creation - in the absence of algorithms deciding what you should and shouldn't see... That felt like a very good place to start.
